Everyone wants water in the garden: in the pond, on flowers, plants and the lawn. But flooding? Nobody is happy with that! More and more gardens have a spacious terrace to enjoy. Intensive or prolonged rain showers can cause flooding in your garden. In addition, more and more municipalities want you to take care of rainwater collection and drainage in order to reduce the burden on municipal sewers. This requires solutions. We help you with functional, sustainable and aesthetic solutions for water management in your own garden!

Prevention is always better

Prevention is always better than cure. A properly functioning drainage gutter in the garden helps to drain the water. You can also think of a drain in your garden, where it is wise to make everything a little bigger. Because many people have tiled their garden and driveway, rainwater can no longer sink into the ground quickly. What helps is to construct a drain for your patio and drain gutter driveway next to the drain. That offers water a quick retreat and reduces the chance that it will remain standing.

Flooding

The moment it rains for a long time or when a lot of rain falls in a short time, the garden cannot cope. Water remains and puddles occur. That in itself does not have to be a problem. That is when the old water is still present and new rain water is added. Thanks to a drain gutter garden, in combination with a drain gutter driveway, a drainage system is created and the water can drain away. Perhaps not immediately, but certainly when peace has returned. As a result, new rain will not constitute an additional burden. Preventing flooding not only helps the garden. A drainage gutter terrace ensures that excess water does not damage the terrace or even penetrate it.

The ease of drainage

A drainage gutter garden also has another advantage. In beautiful summer weather, the children's pool is filled with water. When it is time to empty it, the garden drain gutter will ensure that it can leave quickly. Or, you may want to drain the pond to maintain it and then refill it. As you can see, a drainage gutter garden is in many cases a pleasure. It is easy to maintain, because if you wipe them regularly with the broom, the water will do the rest of the work and remove small parts. The lid is removable, so that you can also clean the gutter yourself, which guarantees a good drainage of the water. Water in itself is a wonderful gift, but too much can cause a lot of trouble. Thanks to a cleverly laid network of drainage gutters in the driveway, the garden and along the terrace, the water can find its way and the chance of inconvenience is considerably reduced.

Do it yourself

What should you pay attention to when installing drainage gutters?

  1. Always place the gutters slightly lower, around 4 mm, than the environment. This way the water can flow away.
  2. Connect them to the sewer system or to a drain. With a small drain you can also think of a connection to the catch basin.
  3. Always place a leaf catcher and a stench trap near the drain pipe to which the gutters are connected. Place the leaf catcher so that you can reach it very easily to remove the leaves.
  4. Make sure that the gutters are level, so that no water collection point is created, which can cause flooding at that location. To be able to remain level, you must make the substrate firm. An extra layer of fine pebble mixed with sand helps.
  5. Consider the inspection doors. Place enough of it, so that you can remove leaves, et cetera anytime, anywhere, so that no bottle necks can arise.
  6. Do you want to lay out a terrace or a new lawn? Then start with the drainage channels. Prevent dirt from getting into it by temporarily covering it.
